A Loss To the Naturopathic Community

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Robert Wilson.
Dr. Robert Wilson, ND passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a pickup truck parked in front of the Hood River County Administration Building.  Witnesses say Wilson’s vehicle was going east on State Street at a fairly slow speed when it drifted right and into the truck, owned by Hood River County Commission Chair Ron Rivers. Passers-by pulled Wilson out of the car and performed CPR. Police continue to investigate what happened to cause the accident, which occurred just after 4 PM.

Dr. Wilson, also known as "Dr. Bob,” was widely recognized in the community at NCNM for his expertise in minor surgery and sense of humor.  He was known to announce, "I see people as ambulatory lesions, just waiting to be removed.”

Dr. Wilson's career as a naturopathic physician came on the heels of two other careers. In 1972, he graduated from Michigan Technological University with a master’s degree in aquatic biology. After practicing for 11 years as a freshwater biologist, he went on to pursue his interest in emergency medicine. As an EMT, Dr. Wilson served on a local rescue squad where he searched for lost hunters and helped rescue drowning victims.

After discovering naturopathic medicine and recognizing his combined interests in nature and medicine, he began studying at NCNM in 1989 and graduated with a doctorate in naturopathic medicine degree in 1993. He established a private practice in Hood River, Oregon for five years, after which time he became a faculty member at NCNM. A full-time assistant professor since 1999, Dr. Wilson supervised student interns on clinical rotations and taught courses in emergency medicine, minor surgery, and x-ray practicum.

Dr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Dr. Renee Wilson, also NCNM class of 1993.  A memorial service will be held on the NCNM campus in his honor in the near future.  We will keep you posted.  Please keep his family in your thoughts.
